Abstract | Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a method of which fluid flow can be analyzed by generating a grid over a physical model and determining characteristics of the fluid flow. One of the newer areas of CFD has been applied in optimizing airflow in computing facilities. Using TileFlow ™, a software package that utilizes CFD techniques to solve conduction-convection equation within data centers such as the NCAR Mesa Lab or the new NCAR Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC). Focusing on the NWSC, TileFlow™ is able to predict the airflow patterns in the machine room of the NWSC. This analysis will help determine the best system among several vendors as well as the optimal configuration and pressure for operation of the NWSC high performance computing environment. |
