With a population of 874,000, San Jose is the largest city in Northern California. Situated between the Diablo and Santa Cruz mountain ranges, San Jose encompasses 170 square miles at the southern tip of San Francisco Bay. Primarily an agriculturally focused city in the early to mid 20th century, San Jose is now known as "the Capital of Silicon Valley" for the area's many high technology companies.
