A high priority with the Graphics and Data Analysis Group is to maintain a functional communication and collaboration with NCAR's Climate and Global Dynamics Division in support of the Climate System Model processor. This is a major driving force for the group's support of science regarding general product development strategies and functionalities.

Version 4.1 of the NCAR Graphics scientific visualization software was released in September 1998. This package allows users to visualize their data with powerful and flexible 2D graphics, 3D capabilities, an improved mapping database, new interpolation methods, new data formats, and more than 200 procedures for data processing.

A highlight of the user documentation produced by GDAG for the Version 4.1 release is the learning document for the NCAR Command Language (NCL) that was guided by user collaboration: Getting Started Using NCL.

GDAG has been concurrently developing a new data access, processing, and visualization product: NCAR DataVisionTM. Scheduled for release in 1999, NCAR DataVision grows from a long-term development effort to provide all the rich functionality of NCAR Graphics software in a self-consistent, fully interactive graphical user interface that enables nonprogrammers to produce advanced scientific visualizations.
