Greg Thompson, an associate scientist with NCAR's Research Applications Program (RAP), enjoys chasing storms--especially tornado-producing storms. On 30 May 1996 he snapped this photo series of a tornado near Elba, Colorado from an estimated distance of three miles. A brief damage survey performed by other chasers indicated that the tornado was likely an F2 but possibly an F3.
