Choose paiute over shavano for large-memory jobs

NCAR General Community computer users now have a new option for large-memory jobs with the CRAY J916 16/256 (paiute).

Paiute has 256 megawords of memory and is available to any General Community user. Since charges on paiute increase linearly as memory increases (rather than shavano's quadratic increase), users will see decreased GAU charges in most cases. In addition, large-memory jobs using greater than 32 megawords are given priority on paiute from 18:00 to 06:00. Therefore, SCD encourages users running single-threaded jobs in excess of 12 megawords on shavano to use paiute instead.

Contact Rosemary Mitchell (db@ncar.ucar.edu) to request a paiute account if you already have an account on shavano.
