Deadline for large computing requests is August 9
The deadline for submission of large
requests for the fall 1996 SCD Advisory Panel meeting is August 9,
1996. The meeting itself will take place October 3-4,
1996.
New definition of large requests
The size limit on university computer requests required to
go before the SCD Advisory Panel has been increased from 100 General
Accounting Units (GAUs) to 250 GAUs. Requests for more than 250 GAUs
must receive final review by the panel at their spring or fall meeting
after preliminary peer review. Advances of up to 100 GAUs can be given
to initiate projects prior to the panel meeting if the preliminary
reviews are favorable.
Additionally, the one-time NCAR computing grant available to qualifying
graduate students and postdocs has been increased from 35 GAUs to 50
GAUs.
Small requests can be submitted any time
Requests
for less than 250 GAUs (formerly 100 GAUs) need not go before the SCD
Advisory Panel. These small requests can be submitted at any time.
They are also subject to several peer reviews. Ordinarily, processing
of small requests is completed in four to six weeks.
