Wireless Network
The
UCAR wireless network covers conference rooms, most office areas at
UCAR campuses, field projects, off-site conferences, training,
aircraft, radar pads, field trailers, and more. Using a 802.11b wireless
network, CISL's Network Engineering &
Telecommunications Section (NETS) manages an access control
policy to ensure the greatest interoperability and roaming ability
for all wireless users.
- Wireless security schemes such as WEP are not used
- Security is provided
at higher layers
- All access to the wireless network will be filtered
- Staff will
log in to a VPN server to gain regular network access
- Guests will log into
a wireless gateway web page to open up a filter hole for them
For existing
wireless technology deployments that use the same or interfering spectrums,
NETS will work with divisions and programs to minimize mutual interference issues.
