Remote Visualization

DASG offers two image based, remote visualization services: HP's Remote Graphics Service (HP RGS) and SGI's VizServer. These services permit users to exploit the capabilities of DASG's powerful visualization platforms from the convenience of their own office. Both technologies operate by capturing the graphics output from DASG's visualization systems, encoding the output as a compressed image, and transmitting the image across the network to the user's desktop. Similarly, mouse and keystrokes entered at the user's desktop are transmitted back to the visualization server. The system is similar in functionality to the X11 windowing system. However, because the technology is image-based, the performance is much higher than what is achieved with X11.
