NORTH CAROLINA SUPERCOMPUTING CENTER AT MCNC - 1990-1995
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
Director, North Carolina Supercomputing Center - Directed the Center and provided strategic leadership in information technology, computational science, partnership development, funding, and education. Analyzed and evaluated future generation technology advances, pushed forward and adopted state-of-the-art technology in high performance computing, workstation clusters, visualization, applications software development and networking. Collaborated with industrial and academic institutions to integrate this technology into their working environment. Designed an excellent training and user support structure for users across the state. Created major strategic vendor partnerships. NCSC serves all higher education institutions, public and private, in the state of North Carolina.
Deputy Director - Directed planning, program implementation, and day-to-day operations. Provided technology leadership and represented the Center to internal and external organizations. Led the acquisition and integration of massively parallel systems, disk array technology, mass storage systems, high-speed HIPPI networking, and visualization systems.
Director of Technology and Operations - Identified, analyzed, acquired and integrated new technology in networking and high performance computing. Implemented and maintained the Environmental Protection Agency Cooperative Agreement, the largest industrial partnership agreement at the Center.
CONSORTIUM FOR SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING - 1987-1990
John von Neumann National Supercomputer Center, Princeton, New Jersey
Vice President for Computing - Integrated leading edge hardware and software technology into the Center, and managed the computing and networking (LAN and WAN) activities of the Center, including software development, networking, operations, systems, and user services. Initiated long-range planning to enhance and maintain the state-of-the-art computing environment. Investigated new technology trends in vector and parallel computing. Coordinated utilization of computing facilities by industrial participants and represented the Center to outside organizations and agencies. Successfully integrated two multiprocessor ETA10 supercomputers. Implemented and expanded a regional network comprising 27 members located between Philadelphia and Boston. Supervised technical proposals to funding agencies. The Consortium was composed of 13 universities with administrative oversight from Rutgers University.
Consultant to the President - Advised the President on all aspects of the progress, integration and acceptance of the first ETA-10 supercomputer created by Control Data Corporation/ETA Systems during its development.
