3, 2005 SCD's Supercomputing Services Group is working with IBM on hardware and software configuration for bluevista, NCAR's newest high-end computer. Left to right: Jeff Cowan, John Ellis, Marc Genty, George Fuentes (group head), and Irfan Elahi. At 1.9 gigahertz (GHz), bluevista's POWER5 processor runs at a faster clock speed than bluesky's POWER4 processor (1.3 GHz). In addition, the POWER5 processor also can sustain a higher memory bandwidth.
