Aaron Andersen, manager of SCD's Enterprise Services Section, oversees IBM site engineers as they move a 2,100-pound frame of NCAR's new IBM e1350 supercomputer into place. The complete system, now installed, has five frames, 132 processors, a clock speed of 2200 MHz, and a peak computational capability of nearly 580 gigaflops. It will be used for issuing daily weather forecasts over Antarctica. Photo: Lynda Lester, NCAR/SCD |
