SCD Computer Room shutdown: May 19–May 22, 2005

The third shutdown to facilitate improvements to NCAR's chilled water plant via the chilled water expansion project has been scheduled for Thursday, May 19 through Sunday, May 22, 2005. The supercomputers and the Mass Storage System will begin going offline at 0000 hours on Thursday, May 19. Systems will start to be brought back online beginning at 1730 hours on Sunday, May 22.

All supercomputing systems including bluesky, tempest, pegasus, frost, lightning, and bluedawn that require high levels of cooling will be unavailable during the shutdown.

During most of the shutdown, critical business continuity systems (phones, email, web services, and networking) will be available. However, on Saturday, May 21, from 0800 to 1200 hours, there will be a four-hour shutdown of Computer Room electrical systems to facilitate work on the electrical switchgear. During this period, the phone system will be available in case of emergency, but email, web services, and networking will not. They will come back online after 1200 hrs.
