User-specified subsets of ERA40 data now available

Users may now select data by choosing atmospheric variables and time period

SCD enhances service
for ERA40 data

SCD's Data Support Section has made a valuable improvement in its offerings of ERA40 data. ERA40, generated by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, is a global atmospheric reanalysis of many conventional observations and satellite data streams for the period September 1957 through August 2002.

Users may now request custom-specified subsets by selecting atmospheric variables and the time period from the 2.5-degree ERA40 archive. Previously, users had to download the native archive files which may have contained much more data than they needed.

Requests are processed in order of receipt. Users are notified via email when their customized data package is ready for download.

Users can access this new service at the following Web pages:

Other subsetting capabilities for the ERA40 archive are under development and will be available in the future.

For information about using these and other ERA40 research data products provided to the scientific community by SCD, please contact SCD software engineer Joey Comeaux (303-497-1256).
