New protocols implemented for remote logins

Use ssh for remote login, scp or sftp for remote file transfers

Keyboard

Among the changes made in SCD usage policies for elevated security requirements is the implementation of a strict rule against the use of rlogin, rsh, and telnet for remote logins and rcp or ftp for remote file transfers.

Only ssh is allowed for remote login now and only scp or sftp for remote file transfers.

As an added requirement, scp and sftp transfers must be initiated from within the secure SCD perimeter. Syntax of the commands can be used to manage the direction of the transfer.

Check the respective man pages for these commands, or contact the SCD consultants (303-497-1278, consult1@ucar.edu).
