The Ninth Annual Community Climate System Model (CCSM) Workshop will be held at the Eldorado Hotel, Santa Fe, New Mexico, from 7 to 9 July 2004. All travel requests are due by 23 April 2004.

Over the last year, further development and improvements have been made in all CCSM components (atmosphere, ocean, land, sea ice, and coupler). CCSM3.0 will be released on 2 June 2004, and control integrations for present-day and pre-industrial conditions are underway.

The theme of this year's workshop is "Biogeochemistry." Inez Fung, University of California, Berkeley; David Archer, University of Chicago; and Scott Denning, Colorado State University, are this year's plenary speakers. Professor Fung will give a presentation on coupled carbon/climate simulations, Professor Archer will give a plenary presentation on the interaction of carbon dioxide with ocean circulation and biology, and Professor Denning will give a plenary presentation on how future changes in carbon and nitrogen cycles are among the leading sources of uncertainty in modeling future climate.

A CCSM script tutorial is scheduled on Thursday and Friday mornings, 8 and 9 July 2004.

The CCSM project has been developed at NCAR in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The project, which is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy, is part of the U.S. Global Change Research Program and U.S. Climate Change Science Program. The project is coordinated by the CCSM Scientific Steering Committee, consisting of both NCAR and non-NCAR scientists.
