the SCD Portal

SCD has taken the next step in providing NCAR's scientific community with a customizable, web-based environment that puts access to information on SCD resources and services at their fingertips.

The web-based portal (named "MySCD") is being deployed now. The portal allows SCD users to make choices on specialized resource information, favorite SCD-web locations as well as basic set-up and design features. Users will be able to create a unique interface to a substantial subset of the information presented by SCD. A special "MySCD" button, prominently visible on the SCD home page, will link users to the portal site.

SCD's portal closely follows the concept provided by commercial models, such as MyYahoo, where a user/customer is allowed to define for themselves areas of interest, access to services, access to colleagues, etc. For SCD, these choices include:

  • GAU Charges by active project
  • Headline views to SCD News
  • SCD Daily Bulletin
  • SCD-specific computer user documentation
  • Job script upload and submission for babyblue, blackforest and bluesky
  • Job queue information
  • Extensive search tools for People, NCAR/UCAR web site
  • DSS datasets
  • Technical consulting services
  • Job submittal queue information
  • MSS access information

The SCD portal functions best in Netscape 6.x or higher and IE 5.x or higher. To access the portal go to:

Login using your gatekeeper login and password.

More content and interactive areas are planned in the near future. SCD encourages users to "exercise" the SCD portal over the next several weeks to assist us in identifying areas where improvements could be made in either presentation format or services. In the coming months we plan to add capabilities to access the Mass Storage System and add richer charging information.

Please send suggestions to scdportal-feedback@ucar.edu.

Welcome to MySCD!
