SCD offers seminar on "Introduction to IBM SP cluster systems"

SCD will offer a seminar called "Introduction to the IBM SP-cluster systems" on 26 March and 21 May 2003, from 08:30–16:30 at NCAR's Center Green Auditorium in Boulder.

IBM's Jim Tuccillo, who has helped researchers at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction analyze, reformulate, and convert large-scale production meteorological simulation codes to run on a large IBM SP platform, will present the seminar.

This one-day seminar is geared toward new users of the IBM SP-cluster systems at NCAR (bluesky, blackforest, babyblue, and dave). It is designed to provide the information you need to immediately start using these systems productively. This seminar is appropriate for both developers and end users who may be involved in making code modifications.

Topics to be covered include:

  • System architecture
  • File systems
  • Building applications
  • Porting codes
  • Programming paradigms
  • Code optimization, and u
  • Using the batch queuing system.

Preregistration deadline for the first seminar is 19 March 2003. You must pre-register to receive your IBM Fortran manuals, POWER3 and POWER4 Redbooks, and a copy of the class notes. To register, please contact Janie Young, 303-497-1288 or janie@ucar.edu by 19 March 2003.

The seminar will be repeated on 21 May 2003. The second pre-registration deadline will be approximately one week before the seminar.
