Computing Professionals at UCAR

The Computing Professionals at UCAR (CPUs) is a new group formed as part of the "Developing our Human Capital" initiative to further peer mentoring efforts institution-wide. The mission of the CPU group is to foster professional relationships that will enhance work-related skills in support of UCAR’s mission. The group welcomes participation by individuals interested in sharing hardware/software expertise.

The CPU group held its first meeting on 07 February. Individuals representing various UCAR/NCAR divisions and programs discussed collaborative software environments, knowledge sharing, and the Skills Learning Exchange being jointly developed by UCAR's Information Technology and Human Resources departments.

The group plans to offer presentations and informational meetings, training, and social/networking events. Members are working to identify areas of common effort, outline organizational computing efforts and initiatives, and develop ideas for sharing resources.

Goals of the CPU are to:

  • Promote communication among peers
  • Create an environment for collaboration
  • Create an inclusive atmosphere of camaraderie and support
  • Promote mentoring, coaching, education, and development
