The winner!

John Tribbia, a student assistant in SCD's Network Engineering and Telecommunications Section (NETS), appears to be flying as he races toward the finish line in the 24th annual UCAR/NCAR Up the Hill Race. Jennifer Griffin, an administrative assistant in NETS, cheers him on the last few yards.

John won the men's footrace on 8 August 2003 with an outstanding time of 8:45, taking a mere eight minutes and 45 seconds to run up the NCAR hill.

Below, Brian Bevirt (foreground), a writer/editor in SCD's User Support Section, along with other UCAR/NCAR runners, gets ready for "On your mark ... get set ... go!" at the starting line of the relay race. Participants wore party hats and carried styrofoam "birthday cakes" decorated in themes appropriate to their respective divisions and programs. (The cakes commemorated the 24th birthday of the Up the Hill Race.) Hats and cakes were handed off to successive relay racers all the way up the hill. SCD took third place in the relay.
