Chipeta to be decommissioned 3 September 2002

Users advised to save chipeta /ptmp files and change expiration date for chipeta $HOME directory on MSS

chipeta, the CRAY J924se

Chipeta, NCAR's last remaining CRAY

NCAR's last Cray computer, chipeta, will be decommissioned at 08:00 Mountain Daylight Time on 3 September 2002.

Soon after 3 September, you will receive email indicating where your chipeta $HOME directory has been archived on the MSS, and that its expiration date is set to approximately six months. You will need to change the expiration date, or otherwise copy the MSS archive if you intend to keep your chipeta $HOME files beyond six months.

Although your $HOME files will be archived by SCD, you are required to save chipeta /ptmp files that you need. Please do this well in advance of the September 3 decommissioning date.

Please contact the SCD Consulting Office (consult1@ucar.edu or 303-497-1278) for information about converting Cray data and source code. As usual in conversion efforts, SCD consultants will advise you on the conversion process. Be prepared to provide source code, data, makefiles, execution scripts and truth output files.

If you have other questions, please contact Ginger Caldwell at cal@ucar.edu or 303-497-1229.
