The AccessGrid builds upon multicast technology, high-bandwidth networks, and an array of audio, video, and specialized PCs to encourage the development of virtual communities. A large screen at each location, similar to the one shown here in the SCD Vislab, displays windows for each of the participating sites. This enables attendees to see, hear, and speak to each other. Here, UCAR Board of Trustees members meet with colleagues to view a presentation on the Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation Grid (NEESgrid), the national virtual laboratory for the earthquake engineering community.
