Passing the torch |
by Lynda Lester On 13 September 2002, SCD participated in the 23rd annual NCAR/UCAR Up the Hill Race. The theme of the event, sponsored by the Employee Activities Committee, was the UCAR Olympics. SCD gamely got into the Greek spirit by donning togas and racing swiftly up the mountain. Blake Caldwell, a student assistant in SCD's Network Engineering and Telecommunications Section, brought home the victory laurel for his first-place finish in the bike race. SCD came in fourth overall in the relay, with 54 runners, 37 togas, and a total time up the hill of 7:45. For complete results, including the formula for calculating relay winners, see 2002 Up-the-Hill Race Results.
