September 2001 (Newstream) -- Charlie Slocomb, volunteer chairman of the SC2001 Executive Committee, reassured conference registrants, exhibitors, sponsors and other interested parties that SC2001 will yield all the rewards originally envisioned -- and more.
Slated for 10-16 November in the Denver Convention Center, SC2001 is the international forum and exhibition on high-performance computing and high-speed data communication. The annual event is produced by a volunteer executive committee, teamed with a cadre of professional staff. Slocomb pledged that they would pull together to ensure that SC2001 is a successful and enriching conference.
This year's conference theme is "Beyond Boundaries." Slocomb emphasized that, "In these difficult times, the global theme SC2001 has adopted takes on even greater significance. We'll literally be linking the world in a fiberoptic network, demonstrating quite clearly that what were once considered boundaries no longer exist."
SC2001 is expected to draw more than 5,000 participants from around the globe to the Denver Convention Center. "We'll start with a supercomputer center that rivals the best anywhere. We'll set it up, debug it, demonstrate it to the world, tear it down, and pack it home, all in one week -- inside somebody else's facility," Slocomb explained.
Other conference highlights will include a teleportation technology of the "Beam me up, Scotty" variety, as well as a look at future applications in the entertainment industry entitled "Hollywood and High-Performance Computing."
