VideoLan VLC Instructions
These are brief instructions for streaming an MPEG file using VLC. You might
want to do this in the course of debugging the BiSON / Lariat video problems.
This mode of video streaming basically tells the server to send the video at
full speed to the client with no feedback or flow control at all. The client doesn't
even need to exist for the video to be sent. So be careful..
First install VLC on the client device.
- Download the VLC client from videolan.org
- Place the client device on an external subnet such as the .43 so that it can
receive unfiltered UDP traffic.
- Run the client and choose 'Open network stream'.
Next stream the video from the server. These instructions work from either npad or the
FRGP workstation. Adjust the IP address and filename as needed.
- Install vlc on the server. Already complete on the above mentioned servers.
- vlc Kingdome_192.mpeg --sout udp/ts:128.117.43.13
- You can use the 'play' and 'prev' commands to restart the video once it's done.
It should be possible to script all of this using the 'vls' command, but the
correct settings have not been determined yet.
