Using the 3com PCMCIA card
Using the 3com PCMCIA card under Windows 2000
The 3com PCMCIA card is a 3CCFEM556B. It works fine under Windows
2000. I tried to download the latest driver and software from
3COM, as follows, but I couldn't figure out what to do with the
floppy images, and gave up. It might be nice to try this again
some time, so I can use the software to see what the PCMCIA card
thinks it's doing.
- Web'd to www.3com.com.
- go to Service & support hear the top of the
page. Note: not the
service & support that's under
service providers.
- go to PC Cards (PCMCIA).
- go to LAN + Modem PC cards.
- In the choose product number field, select
3CCFEM556B.
- Under fem56bx1.exe, select HTTP. Save it
in My Downloads.
- Under fem56bx1.exe, select HTTP. Save it
in My Downloads.
- In My Downloads, execute fem56bx1.exe.
- In My Downloads, execute fem56bx2.exe
several times, it'll ask if you want to overwrite existing
files. just click Y each time.
- It'll copy some files to C:\MHZ.
- In My Downloads, execute SETUP.EXE.
- When done, it'll display a Windows "HELP" window.
- this was so hard to understand at this point that I gave up.
It doesn't appear that 3com has anything for this card that
even mentions Windows 2000. Sigh.
