Using the 3com PCMCIA card

Using the 3com PCMCIA card under Windows 2000

The 3com PCMCIA card is a 3CCFEM556B. It works fine under Windows 2000. I tried to download the latest driver and software from 3COM, as follows, but I couldn't figure out what to do with the floppy images, and gave up. It might be nice to try this again some time, so I can use the software to see what the PCMCIA card thinks it's doing.

go to Service & support hear the top of the page. Note: not the service & support that's under service providers.
go to PC Cards (PCMCIA).
go to LAN + Modem PC cards.
In the choose product number field, select 3CCFEM556B.
Under fem56bx1.exe, select HTTP. Save it in My Downloads.
Under fem56bx1.exe, select HTTP. Save it in My Downloads.
In My Downloads, execute fem56bx1.exe.
In My Downloads, execute fem56bx2.exe several times, it'll ask if you want to overwrite existing files. just click Y each time.
It'll copy some files to C:\MHZ.
In My Downloads, execute SETUP.EXE.
When done, it'll display a Windows "HELP" window.
this was so hard to understand at this point that I gave up. It doesn't appear that 3com has anything for this card that even mentions Windows 2000. Sigh.
