KeySpan USB-to-serial adapter (Pete's notes)
Linux
The EmperorLinux 2.4.20 kernel on gazelle came with drivers for
most KeySpan devices, including the KeySpan USA-19QW. When I plug
the 19QW into a USB port on gazelle, the
/var/log/messages file gets messages as the
device is automatically configured.
It doesn't matter which USB port I plug the keyspan into: it
becomes /dev/ttyUSB0. I configured minicom so
that I can say "keyspan" from a bash command line to use it.
See my minicom page for
details.
MAC OS X
I webb'd to the Keyspan.com site and went to
Downloads ->
MAC OS X. My adapter is a USA-19QW, so
I selected the
High Speed USB Serial Adapter
link and went through the install process.
It installed the driver and an application called
"KeySpan Serial Assistant" in the Applications
folder.
When I plugged in the USB cable, two special device files named
/dev/cu.KeySerial1 and
/dev/tty.KeySerial1 were created.
