See http://www.imap.org for a listing of available mail software, both free and commmercial that supports IMAP4. Their distribution claims to support the following mailbox formats: mbx, mh, mmdf, mtx, mx, news, phile, tenex and unix So, if this works as advertised, I could continue to use Exmh while at work, which uses the mh mailbox format, and then use an IMAP compatible client at home (or while traveling).
