These PBX procedures perform a backup of all data in the system, and supply backup copies of software to the tape library. Backup tape rotation should be performed on each system at least every 60 days, preferably every 30 days. Restore procedures are also included in this document. Additional information is available on the Siemens Maintenance CDs.
The PhoneMail procedures perform a backup of the PhoneMail database. The current systems that UCAR utilizes do not back up messages, name, or other recorded information. Backup diskette rotation should be done per the same schedule as PBX backups.
Backup media is labeled with the system name and ID. The date of the most
recent backup contained on the media is written on the media label as well.
Backup media is stored in ML 34B (except ML systems media is stored at FL2 3095).
We currently have 5 tapes & diskettes per system in the rotation library. The
current backup media stays in the drive so it is available for the PBX systems
weekly-automated backup (PhoneMail does not perform automatic backups). Backup
media rotation is performed during the first week of every month, using the
oldest backup. Every 6 months, media is archived off site (date
is logged here), and new media is placed into the rotation.
Tape part # - Sony DG60P (4mm data cartridge, 60m 1.3GB capacity)
Diskette - Standard High Density 1.4M diskette
Each PBX system has a library containing the following tapes:
ISYAPSUN, contains basic system software-UNIX/RMX (stored on system shelf)
Base database copy (stored off site).
1. Onsite recent (stored on system shelf). Backup E
2. Onsite current (in DAT drive). Backup A
3. Backup B
4. Backup C
5. Backup D
Backups A-E are rotated during the backup process monthly. Tape A becomes Onsite recent, Tape B becomes Onsite current, Tape E is returned to the storage case. Next month Tape C becomes Onsite current, Tape B, becomes Onsite recent, Tape A is returned to storage case.
The DAT drive should be cleaned at least every 6 months. The DAT drive head
cleaning tape is stored on system shelf onsite. The cleaning tape should be
replaced every 40 uses.
