CISL Notifier

The CISL Notifier is now ready for NETS use for announcing NETS outages. You can find it here: https://notifier.ucar.edu/notifier/login

There is a link to the system on the NETS Forms page. Use your UCAS login and password to access the system.

NETS specific services have been set up. Email is sent to nets-outage and nnag for these services:

  • All UCAR Networks
  • CG Network
  • FL Network
  • Marshall Network
  • ML Network
  • RAF Network
  • These services have also been set up, but have a different email set:

  • BISON/BPOP Network - Email to bison-outage and nnag
  • FRGP Network - Email to frgp-outage and nnag
  • Multicast Network - Notify vislabevents
  • NETS Internal - Email to nets-outage only
  • NOAA Wireless Backup Network - Notify nb-noc@noaa.gov
  • UPoP Network -  Email sent to upop-outage and nnag
  • In addition, these services have been set up for network engineering staff to log outages on the notifier calendar (rather than Meeting Maker netschange calendar).

  • ESnet (NETS - Calendar Only)
  • Internet2 (NETS - Calendar Only)
  • Level3 (NETS - Calendar Only)
  • NLR (NETS - Calendar Only)
  • Qwest (NETS - Calendar Only)
  • TransitRail (NETS - Calendar Only)
  • To announce a change:

    1. Log in
    2. Click on create notification
    3. Select Notification Type
    4. Select the type of service (multiple services can be selected)
    5. Click on Next
    6. Select the Start and End Date
    7. Click on Next
    8. Type in the description of the outage
    9. Select the contacts
At this point you can preview or send.

To Announce a Change is Complete or to Change a Notification:

    1. Log in
    2. Click edit notification The notifications you have sent out will be listed
    3. Select the notification to change or mark as complete
    4. Click on Send Status or Send Cancellation

You should announce the "All Clear" from the system so all information related to an outage will be logged on the calendar.

The calendar is a useful feature to view all changes by day, week or month. I've created all of our services with network or NETS in the title, so you can filter the calendar by "net" to see only networking changes.

    FAQs:

    Who can use the system?
Anyone with a UCAS password can log in and view the calendar. To send notifications or edit services, administrative privilege is needed.
What is Change Control used for?
It's there to let people know that something changed on the service, or a change is being planned. Say I'm deploying a new version of Notifer. On the form, I would select Change Control and Scheduled Outage. This would put the words "CHANGE CONTROL" in the email subject. You'll also get another question in the wizard: "Does this change affect system interdependencies?" If you choose "yes", you'll be asked to enter a description of how it affects system interdependencies. This is meant to capture information for CPG's dependency diagram. During the ML power down, systems need to be shut down and brought up in a certain order, and if the change you're making affects that order, this is a way to capture and communicate that change.
Is it possible to group the Internal Contacts Selected alphabetically?
This has been requested in a future release.
Is it possible to have Preview and View Recipients on one screen?
This has been requested in a future release.
If an event is canceled, does it get removed from the calendar?
    Yes.
