Conference Call/Calling Card FAQs
For other questions about
calling cards, please send email to telecom@ucar.edu
How are conference calls charged to the caller?
- All
conferencing vendors charge a per minute rate, per conference call participant.
Vendors also charge one rate if you use toll free service (1-800) and a different
rate if each participant pays their own long distance charges to the conference
bridge. Additional charges may include operator assistance, recording, and large
group setup.
What vendor provides service for UCAR/NCAR?
-
Our current service is with Sprint under the GSA contract. When we went out for
bid for UCAR's long distance we also looked at several of the telephone conference
vendors. At that point, prices were comparable, so we opted to keep our billing
with one vendor. We are not under an exclusive agreement, and we do not have minimum
call volumes to maintain for our current long distance contract.
I
noticed that vendors like Sprint often provide more than one rate for calls. Why?
-
When you received your audio conference card and the initial email -- you were
provided with both a toll free number, and a toll number. Most of our users provide
the toll free number for their calls, which is about $0.26 per minute. The toll
service is $0.21 per minute.
I noticed there are other vendors
with better, more competetive rates. Why is UCAR/NCAR not pursuing a better deal?
