Workforce Education and Outreach: Foster Public Awareness and Understanding of Our Science

  IMAGe presentation at SC05
Attendees at the SuperComputing '05 conference in Seattle attend a presentation by IMAGe Director Doug Nychka in the CISL booth. CISL staff delivered a series of presentations on topics including data assimilation, turbulence, petascale computing, and visualization, and provided broad overviews to conference attendees about CISL projects, tools, and NCAR Science.

CISL supports several programs that foster and improve public awareness and understanding of science and provide tools and training for geoscientific data analysis and visualization for the scientific and educational communities. These activities are supported through conference exhibits, visually compelling 3D presentations in the Vislab, partnership with the NCAR Public Visitor Program, and a training and outreach program for the NCAR Command Language (NCL) and other visualization tools. CISL's work across all of these areas broadly supports NCAR's strategic goal to "Cultivate a scientifically literate and engaged citizenry and a diverse and creative workforce." This work is supported by NSF Core funding.

Accomplishments and plans in these areas are discussed in these sections:
