  GAU Administrator
report
This display shows two new dynamic graphs that were implemented for the GAU Administrator role during FY 2006. The Top GAU Users graph (on the left) shows the 10 users within the specified division who have consumed the most GAUs within the specified timeframe. Likewise, the Top GAU Projects graph (on the right) shows the 10 projects within the specified division that have consumed the most GAUs within the specified timeframe. GAU Administrators may choose to view data for the last 90, 30, 14, or 7 days. These graphs help GAU Administrators closely monitor GAU consumption to stay within their 30- and 90-day GAU allocations. View large image.

The SCD Portal provides the scientific community with a customizable, feature-rich web interface to SCD computing resources. It was launched in FY 2003, and new features have been continually added since its initial release. The Portal serves users worldwide from any internet-connected computer. Users can submit jobs to supercomputers, monitor and control jobs submitted, and view charging information for completed jobs, all via the Portal. In addition to providing an easy-to-use interface to computing resources, the Portal provides several color-coded graphs and charts of general accounting unit (GAU) expenditures and allocations. The SCD Portal supports three of NCAR's strategic priorities: "Developing and providing advanced services and tools," "Creating an Earth system knowledge environment," and "Engaging a broader and more diverse community."

During FY 2006, the Portal team added the new role of GAU Administrator. This role allows authorized users to view various color-coded division-specific graphs depicting aggregate GAU charging information. Users assigned this new role typically have oversight responsibility for projects, and this role provides an easy way to monitor GAU consumption. Users may be authorized to view information for one or more divisions. Four new dynamic charts were added to support this role: Top GAU Projects, Top GAU Users, Top MSS GAU Projects, and Top MSS GAU Users.

Additionally, the Portal team implemented three new active components that are available to the General User and SCD Administrator roles. The Project Information component provides a mapping between project numbers and users, and it lists various project details. The MSS GAU Use by User component draws a dynamic, color-coded bar chart detailing GAUs charged per user for reading, creating, writing, and storing information on the Mass Storage System (MSS). The Total MSS GAU component draws a dynamic, color-coded pie chart showing the percentage of MSS GAUs spent on read, create, write, and storage transactions.

The targeted features for FY 2007 and beyond include real-time supercomputer status information such as system up/down status and number of nodes reserved, and a GAU bookkeeping feature (pending a new GAU accounting model). Additionally, the SCD Portal will begin to serve TeraGrid users as NCAR resources become available on the TeraGrid.

The SCD Portal is supported by NSF Core funds.
