Toward an Earth System Knowledge Environment
The development of an Earth System Knowledge Environment (ESKE)
is a cornerstone of NCAR's and CISL's Strategic Plans. Our goal is
to continually develop new cyberinfrastructure that may be integrated
into powerful, collaborative problem-solving environments that advance
the community's ability to engage in research and scientific discovery,
and to construct complex workflows. Our efforts span modeling frameworks,
data and knowledge management and access, collaboration, and analysis
and visualization. We cultivate opportunities to:
- Advance the state of the art through research and development
grants complemented by core funding
- Transition the most promising and effective results into production
capabilities that we support and distribute
- Integrate across capabilities to amplify our investments
This section of CISL's Annual Report describes CISL's activities
and plans that contribute to the realization of the ESKE. Projects
and programs are supported primarily by NSF Core funding, with other
support as indicated by the individual reports in this document.
