Geophysical Turbulence Program and Turbulence Numerics Team plans

A continuing activity is the development and testing of the Geophysical and Astrophysical Spectral-element Adaptive Refinement (GASpAR) code for direct numerical simulation (DNS) and large-eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flows.

FY2006 will see the development of load-balancing schemes for clusters, and the first public release of the code is planned for January 2006. This research will also continue to develop multiresolution-analysis methods that are especially useful for accurately representing turbulent processes.

Applications of the adaptive code and multiresolution analysis will also be initiated on zonal jets and on vortex interactions.
