Computational science research plans

In 2006, the Computational Science Section will undertake the following:

  • Participate in the deployment of a 10 Gb/s Boulder-area network testbed.

  • Integrate select NCAR data sets, resources, and science portals into the Teragrid.

  • Build an experimental systems laboratory with focus in year one on multi-core microprocessor technologies and evaluating emerging high-performance interconnect solutions.

  • Develop a scalable, reliable, and low-cost storage system capable of working in a heterogeneous Linux cluster environment.

  • Work with numerical methods researchers and climate scientists to develop an accurate, conservative, and scalable atmospheric general circulation model. The ultimate goal is to supply a 3D global model to the atmospheric sciences community for analysis of the earth's global climate.
