Visualization and Analysis Research Platform for Ocean, Atmosphere, and Solar Research (VAPOR) plans

Development work on VAPOR will continue in FY2006 with an aim toward a public beta release of the software near the end of the calendar year, and a first production release targeted for the summer timeframe. In addition to hardening the software for public use, providing user documentation, and a suite of examples for using the software, a number of new features are planned. The most significant new capabilities include:

  • Support for Adaptive Mesh Refinement grids
  • Support for spherical grids
  • Geometry, and possibly texture-based, flow visualization
  • A complete IDL language binding to VAPOR.s library API
  • Lossy data compression
  • High-quality volume rendering
