Toward an Earth System Knowledge Environment: Integration with the TeraGrid

TeraGrid logo Our plans for FY2006-2007 reflect a strong theme of integration and collaboration across projects, organizations, and technology. One of our primary goals is to establish a partnership with the NSF TeraGrid and to begin contributing to its success as a resource provider and as a catalyst for enhanced service to the Earth System science community. The opportunity space here is rich with possibilities, including distributed modeling, enhanced access to geoscientific data, science portals, emerging efforts in digital preservation, and the development of new Grid technologies.

Focused thrusts in converging modeling frameworks and metadata, knowledge and semantic systems, and analysis and visualization environments pave the way for next-generation knowledge tools. CISL will also be playing a leadership role in the development of global, interoperable data systems including a strong contribution to WMO efforts in this area. These directions will provide a foundation for delivering some new, very large datasets to our community, including reanalyses, regional climate model results, and global weather ensembles.
