Toward an Earth System Knowledge Environment: Progress on a broad frontOne of the cornerstones of CISL's strategic plan is the development of a new generation of frameworks, tools, environments, and data resources that address elements of the knowledge development pipeline. The ultimate goal is to realize an end-to-end simulation and analysis environment that supports the execution of complex scientific workflows and enables a new era of scientific discovery. With support from sponsors such as NSF, DOE, NASA, and DOD, we have continued to innovate via a portfolio of strategic, complementary projects. During FY2005 we made substantial progress including development and deployment in modeling frameworks and environments, data and knowledge systems, scientific data products and curation, Grid computing, science and computational portals, and analysis and visualization tools. Details on the suite of projects that CISL is engaged in appear in the Toward an Earth System Knowledge Environment section of the CISL annual report. Most of our efforts in this area reflect a high level of collaboration across agencies, centers, universities, and the international science community. |
