Experimental computing systems: Blue Gene/L

IBM Blue Gene/L frost In 2006 the ReSET activities on frost will revolve around the following:

  1. Supporting an increasing user base and expanding the set of application codes that run on the Blue Gene architecture.

  2. Working with IBM to support the latest system software stack and helping them continue development of the software stack.

  3. Participating in the Blue Gene consortium, in particular the operation, systems, and application working groups.

  4. Working with Argonne National Laboratory to improve Cobalt, the queuing system currently being used on frost, by incorporating alternate scheduling strategies and testing the I/O node operating system ZeptoOS.

  5. Upgrading the current version of IBM's General Parallel File System (GPFS) to employ native GPFS clients, building a Lustre file system on frost, and comparing performance results between the two.

  6. Connecting frost to the 10 Gb/s Boulder area networking testbed and potentially the Teragrid.
