This section gives a brief summary of the changes from the current DCS version 3.3 software.
The path you use to access the DCS commands may have changed. The DCS commands should
always be accessible in /usr/local/dcs-4.0/bin, and possibly
other directories if your system administrator has installed links.
The DCS queue management commands have changed (dcsjlog, dcsq, dcsrm and
dcswait). The command options and output will be different from that produced by
the DCS 3.3 versions.
The msrcp command has some new options.
The msrcp command will not permit more than 1,000 directory or file names to be
used (either explicitly or via wild card or directory recursion).
This is to prevent accidental transfers of excessive numbers of files to the MSS.
Note
This limit is preliminary and might be changed in either direction.
Because the MSS is a shared resource, the DCS servers will detect when
DCS Client processes become blocked or are otherwise non-responsive for
a period of time (5 minutes currently) and automatically terminate the command.
Improved C, C++ and Fortran 90/95 callable library routines have been provided.
The old library API, which was seldom used, has been depreciated but has been
provided to aid porting.
(For system administrators)
The OSF Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) library is no longer required.
The DCS Client can be configured for use behind UCAR internal firewalls.
