VAPOR
Description
VAPOR is the Visualization and Analysis Platform for Ocean, Atmposphere, and Solar Researchers: a desktop platform for exploring geosciences CFD data sets.

Obtaining an account
Before using VAPOR on a Lab resource you need to have a DASG user account and have a VirtualGL compatable VNC client installed on your workstation for remote rendering. Information on obtaining an account may be found in the Quick Start Guide. Information on using VirtualGL may be found in the DASG Remote Visualization guide.

Running VAPOR
VAPOR is installed on the Lab's storm cluster, storm{0,1,2,3,4,5}.scd.ucar.edu, and is run from the convenience of your office, via the HPRGS remote rendering service.

  1. Log on to one of the storm cluster's using VirtualGL.

  2. Source the vapor setup file:

source /fs/local/bin/vapor-setup.csh # for c-shell users

or

. /fs/local/bin/vapor-setup.sh # for bourne shellusers

  1. Invoke the vapor gui:

vaporgui

VAPOR IDL example scripts may be found in the directory ${VAPOR_HOME}/share/examples/idl.
