HP Remote Graphics Service
Description
HP's Remote Graphics Service (HP RGS) allows users to exploit the capabilities of DASG's powerful visualization platforms from the convenience of their own office. HP RGS is currently support on a 64bit Linux cluster, storm. The following information covers how to install and use the HP RGS software.

Obtaining an account
Before using HP RGS you must obtain an account on the HP RGS cluster. To create an account send mail to dasg@ucar.edu.

Downloading the software
The HP RGS client software is a licensed product. To obtain an evaluation copy or to purchase the software, visit the HP RGS web site, or contact DASG at dasg@ucar.edu.

Running the HP RGS client
  1. Start the HP RGS receiver client from your desktop system.

For Linux systems, execute the command:

/opt/hpremote/rgreceiver/rgreceiver.sh

For Windows systems click on the HPRGS icon

A one-time configuation change is needed the first time you run the HP RGS client. Click on the Advanced>>> button and then click the Network tab. Change both the Error and Dialog timeouts to 300.

  1. Enter the name of the server to connect to under Connect to sender. After entering the server name, press Connect. When prompted enter your UCAS login name and press OK
  2. Enter your UCAS password and pres OK
  3. The windows desktop for the remote machine will be displayed to your screen. You will again need to log in with your UCAS login and password.

Note: only a limited number of HP RGS servers are available. Please be sure to close your session when not in use.
