Enterprise Services


Distributed Services Group (DSG) provides system administration for a number of services. Many of these services are utilized by a majority of the organization or represent core Information Technology resources. In order to addequately support these services it is necessary to prioritize the service primarily based on impact to UCAR/NCAR business continuity. Associated with these priorities are also a set of service levels defined below.

  • Severity One problems are paged immediately 7X24x365. Severity One problems are worked on a best effort basis at the judgment and discretion of DSG/Security.

    No staff member will work more than 12 hours in a day.

  • Severity Two problems are paged out between the hours of 7am and 7pm seven days per week (except NCAR holidays).

    Note: Severity Two problems occurring after 7pm are paged out via email and paged out the next day if no response has been received from the email notification.

  • Severity Three problems are sent out via email and handled 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, Next Business Day (NBD).

Priority One


Priority One services are viewed as mission critical to the organization. Also these services tend to impact other services if unavailable. As such, any hardware or software failure is deemed a Severity One problem.

Priority Two


Priority Two services are mission critical but typically to a smaller community or portion of the organization. Also, because of the nature of the service it may be more fault tollerant. Hardware or software failures that result in the service being unusable or seriously impaired will be treated as Severity One. All other problems will be dealt with as Severity Two.

Priority Three


Priority three services are specific to the computing division or individual groups. The unavailablity of these services is usually transparent to the user or only results in minor inconvenience. Failures on these systems are considered Severity Three and are handled next business day.
