Purpose

To attend technical sessions describing the latest vulnerabilities and remediation's for them. Network with other security professionals. Obtain conference journal and training materials to be used at UCAR.

Overview

USENIX security is always an excellent security conference with an academic slant.

Reference Materials / Recommendations

I attended the general sessions only and the invited speakers were top notch. SOme of the paper sessions were good and some were weak but interesting. Overall I learned quite a bit for 3 days. We had the opportunity to meet with SDSC and CalTech folks in an evening session to discuss our common security related issues.

I also met with e government computer security employees from Sweden to discuss our mutual intruder and was updated on his status.

City / Accommodation Comments

Boston is easy to get around, and my hotel was small, old, but very clean and within 8 blocks of the meeting. We had some great seafood at Legal Seafood and in fact entertained Rick Farrow to discuss our Security Redesign project.
