Purpose
| Experience a pure Object Oriented conference and learn about new developments in OO software engineering, tools and the OO data persistence work. |
Overview
| It is a little too research oriented for a practical, tool-oriented, SE like me. |
Reference Materials / Recommendations
I was able to take a workshop about using the Netbeans IDE for module development from the primary creator of Netbeans himself.
The most interesting facets of the conference were on Aspect-Oriented programming and Agile SE methods. Aspect is an interesting "competetor" to OO, and not surprisingly not well liked in an OO conference. The AO people were on the defensive, which brought about open debates that were very informative because they had to be clear and direct in discussing pros and cons.
Discussions of Agile were also direct. The panels on these topics were most informative.

City / Accommodation Comments
The Red Lion, while not as new and glamorous as in other cities shown on their web site, was good. I think because it is not as fancy, the staff was more helpful and services such as local phone calls and Internet access was free.
