Subject: corefile process

Here is the procedure for sending corefiles to Sun:

1. From the directory with the file, perform the tar:"tar cvf case#.tar *". Tar
is only needed if there are multiple files. The * will include all files in
   the directory.

2. Next, compress the file: "gzip case#.tar"

3. File now converted to: "case#.tar.gz"

4. If you don't have gzip, use: "compress case#.tar"

5. File now is this format: "case#.tar.Z", or "case#.tar.gz"

6. Do: ftp sunsolve.sun.com (Note: IP address is 192.9.9.24)

7. Login: anonymous

8. Password: "your email address"

9. cd to "cores" directory

10. Type: bin (Note: Set to binary mode)

11. Do: put "filename", [case#.tar.Z]=filename. You will not be able to do an
ls on the cores directory to see the files, since you have no permissions.

12. Type: bye (Note: to end session)

This will do it for you, and the analysis group will call you back with a
determination. If you are going to request a live transfer, when you call in,
before your case has been generated, it will be important for the corefile
process to happen as soon as possible. To get status of a corefile analysis,
call in on the (1-800-USA-4SUN) with prompts 1,1 and enter your case#. You will
be connected directly to the group analyzing your corefile.
