How to access information on your MSS holdings

SCD's Mass Storage Group has prepared information on your MSS holdings in three web-based directories. These directories contain a complete listing of all of your MSS files, divided into three categories for your ease of use. The directories are as follows:

If you want to view holdings listed by your scientist number, use:
http://www.mss.ucar.edu/reports/internal/by/user/

If you want to view holdings listed by your project number, use:
http://www.mss.ucar.edu/reports/internal/by/proj/

If you want to view holdings listed by your user root directory, use your logon name:
http://www.mss.ucar.edu/reports/internal/by/root/

Whichever directory you use (and you may want to access all three), you will see displayed a directory listing according to its respective type (e.g., user, project, or root). Simply scroll down the list (or use the "Find in Page" search feature of your browser) to find your files and double click on the folder icon.

When you open your web folder(s) you will see a table of links to various reports.

Default report

The summary tables provide summary information in tables that tell you the size of your MSS holdings. The top table describes your entire holdings as a function of the major key you selected (user, project, or root directory).

Report showing total holdings

The following two tables break this top-level summary down into subholdings based on the other two keys. For example, if the main summary table is for a root directory, the other tables break down the totals for that root directory by project and by user.

Report organized by project

Report organized by user

Alternatively, if the main table is for a project, the other two tables break down the totals by root directory and by user for that project. If the main table is for a user, the other two tables break down the totals by root directory and by project for that user.

The class of service report breaks down the totals by different class of service keywords and their values.

Although full, detailed file listings used to be generated for all users, projects, and root directories, we can no longer provide this automatically. We will, however, continue to provide this service for those who explicitly subscribe to it.

Subscribing to detailed MSS file listings

To subscribe, click on the email link below and please indicate exactly which listing you would like using one of the following formats:

You may request more than one of a particular type by submitting a comma-separated list. You may also request different types in the same subscription request. Be advised, however, that the different types are independent requests are not "anded" together.

Example 1:

In this example, two subscriptions are requested: one that lists all files under /FOOBAR and another one that lists all files under user 1234. It does not list files under /FOOBAR belonging only to user 1234.

Example 2:

In this example, two subscriptions are requested: one for user 1234 and the other for user 5678.

Detailed file listings provide information on both your total current holdings as well as that set of files that are older than five years and have never been read. In each case, you have the further choice of seeing just a list of filenames or seeing detailed metadata for each file as well.

Note: As of July 31, 2007, scientist numbers will be expanded to five digits. This will shift file listings one character to the right.

If you haven't yet subscribed to detailed file listings, your reports table looks like the first example on this page. Once you have subscribed, it will look like this:

Report for subscribed users

These are the fields included in the detailed file listings you can subscribe to:

scientist number (5 digits)

usage COS (1 digit)
create time (YYYY/MM/DD-HH24:MI:SS)
