Using Hardware Performance Monitor (HPM) Toolkit:
A primer
last update:
01/14/2009
This primer explains the basic operation of HPM Toolkit in a brief tutorial format. It describes:
- How to run your code under the HPMCOUNT utility
- How to instrument your code with the most commonly used subprograms in the LIBHPM instrumentation library
- How to interpret the output of the LIBHPM library
The concepts are illustrated with three examples that show HPM Toolkit library output from:
- A simple serial job
- An OpenMP threaded job
- A hybrid OpenMP - MPI parallel job
This primer is designed to be the first document that users new to HPM Toolkit on NCAR systems should read and use, in addition to the Hardware Performance Monitor (HPM) Toolkit document provided by IBM.
