Charges for CISL computing resources

Last updated: 07/31/2008

This document provides links to charging information for all equipment at NCAR. This includes all supercomputers and other equipment for which charges accrue against your allocation; other equipment includes the NCAR Mass Storage System (MSS). This document also lists systems on which you need an allocation, but for which you are not charged.

Charging for Community Computing and CSL resources

Charges for using Community Computing resources and Climate Simulation Laboratory (CSL) resources are assessed in General Accounting Units (GAUs). The GAU is the unit of common currency that users can spend to use the first group of systems shown on this page.

Systems for which charges accrue against your allocation

Systems for which you are not charged

You need an allocation to compute on these systems, but GAU charges do not accrue against your account.

Tracking your GAU usage

You can track GAU usage using the CISL Portal or by viewing the summary reports on the sidebar of the Database Services Team web page.

Job queues on the various computing systems

Batch jobs are run in queues that have unique characteristics for each system. The queues accumulate charges at different rates. You can learn about the queues for the system you will use by following the "Queues" link on the main page for that computer.

For your convenience, here are links to the pages describing the queues for each supercomputer at NCAR:
