Distributed Computing Services: user interface to the MSS

SCD's Distributed Computing Services (DCS) is the user interface to the NCAR Mass Storage System (MSS). DCS helps MSS users:

More than 1 million requests were processed, and over 31 TB of data were moved by DCS between the MSS and the compute servers.

FY2000 accomplishments

The DCS project is currently focused on providing functionality and reliability enhancements, as well as porting the DCS suite to new computing platforms as the need arises.

During FY2000, DCS version 3.1 was deployed. This version removed the dependency of the DCS software on the use of DCE cell directory and security services. This change enables the use of the DCS suite on compute systems for which only basic DCE RPC services are available. In addition, this version removed the requirement to run daemon processes on most client systems to support asynchronous data transfers.

DCS was also updated to run on Compaq's Tru64 platforms.
